While researching the publishing industry earlier for a client earlier today, I came across a handful of quotes about books. I was struck by this one:
"Books are a uniquely portable magic."
I began pondering which books have recently influenced my life or business in unexpected mysterious ways. A few names quickly came to mind... and then nothing! I was a little surprised that so few of the business books I’ve read lately met the standard of “portable magic” – or simply escaped my mind. I gained knowledge, ideas, and perspective from a variety of books from businessmen must read lists, yet very few transported me to a higher place or shifted my thinking drastically. In fact, I was surprised that more playful, nonbusiness books were the ones that could fit this description. One of them was How to Live in Flip-Flops by Sandy Gingras, which favors the simple over the complicated. It gave me a little push toward maintaining perspective and reminded me that anything is possible.
I’d love to hear your list of magical must reads. Please share! In case you need a little assistance defining magical consider this:
“If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all.”
“If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.”
We want each of you to be successful visualizers and actualizers!
Robert L. Schwartz states that an entrepreneur "can visualize something, and when he visualizes it he sees exactly how to make it happen." Entrepreneurs must oversee the operations of their business by being managers, accountants, and marketers. This work is usually in addition to inventing, lawyering, doctoring, or writing. Entrepreneurs must do anything it takes to ensure their business thrives.
